The moment promos of INKAAR went online; there was a cry of DISCLOSURE all over, what with quite a few drawing analogies between the Arjun Rampal-Chitrangda Singh starrer and Michael Douglas-Demi Moore thriller-erotica. As has turned out, this could well be a well-disguised ploy to divert attention from a Mithun Chakraborty film that was released way back in 1986 and dealt with the same subject and setting.
"The film was called SHEESHA was a serious dramatic tale directed by Basu Chatterjee. It too dealt with the issue of sexual harassment at workplace where a junior employee (Mallika Sarabhai) accused her boss, a corporate bigwig (Mithun Chakraborty) of rape. Since it was released directly on TV, it wasn't talked about much over the years. However if one looks at the basic plotline of INKAAR, it is just the same,'' comments a source.
The USP of SHEESHA was its climax that threw a major surprise as it brought a twist in the tale with the lies and betrayal leading to a shocking truth. Now one waits to see how much of a difference does INKAAR brings in the milieu of the current times.
However Sudhir Mishra denies even seeing SHEESHA, leave aside being inspired by the film. 'That's right, I haven't seen that film. See, at the end of the day there are many ideas that are generated while writing a film but I believe that tale is in the telling. It is every director's point of view to deal with a given subject. I am not worried about whether you compare my film with a SHEESHA or a DISCLOSURE. Not one scene of INKAAR is lifted from any other film,'' he says categorically.
