VJ and TV anchor-turned-actor Ayushmann Khurrana, who shot to fame with VICKY DONOR, is fast climbing up the ladder and making headway in Bollywood. The very charming and talented, Ayushmann recently bagged his third project, an untitled rom-com, to be directed by none other than Rohan Sippy.
Ayushmann, who is fast spreading his wings in Bollywood, says, "I don't think it's a fast transition. On the contrary it has been a gradual journey from TV to films. It's all about making right choices at right time. Fortunately, VICKY DONOR clicked and things just changed for me."
"VICKY DONOR was a perfect combination of conventional and parallel cinema. I was part of a script driven, good film like VICKY DONOR. The uniqueness of the subject ushered the audiences to come to theatres. I am not alone responsible for its success. It's a team work. I am not a star kid who can draw audiences to theatres. Having said that, VICKY DONOR was the initial trigger point to lay my foundation in Bollywood. So it was a challenge," he adds.
Though he did an unconventional film like VICKY DONOR, Ayushmann has been always fascinated with commercial cinema. And he is mighty excited to be part of Rohan Sippy's next, which will be out-n-out commercial venture. Says Ayushmann, "I never endorse particular kind of cinema. I have grown up watching commercial genre. So, I am quite fascinated with it. Having said that, I am open to every kind of cinema. If the character is interesting any kind of genre or cinema would work."
Ayushmann is all praise of Rohan's sensibilities as a filmmaker. He says, "Rohan Sippy is a sought-after director. I loved his film BLUFFMASTER. He has great sensibilities of cinema. In fact, I also admire Rohan's dad Ramesh Sippy's body of work. I am a huge SHOLAY fan."
All of Rohan's ventures have been with Abhishek Bachchan in the lead. However, for the first time, Abhishek will have a cameo in Rohan's film. Ask Ayushmann about replacing Abhishek and he swiftly replies, "Well Abhishek is busy with other projects. And he does have a cameo in the film as he is Rohan's lucky mascot…I can't step in the shoes of Abhishek. I have a long way to cover."
But ask him if he feels the pressure of being part of the biggie and he says "More than pressure I feel excited to work. I am used to doing my stint in front of the camera for past four years. It's not something new, I don't get overawed."
Ayushmann may not feel in the big league but he vouches for himself to be an actor to look upon. Says Ayushmann, "May be five films down the line I can feel so or say so that I am in a big league but not right now. But yes I am one of the upcoming actors."
Ayushmann is content with the work he has in hands right now. "The future is slightly secured. My hands are full and it feels good. I have two films as of now HUMARA BAJAJ and Rohan Sippy's next. The talks are still on with the producers of TERE BIN LADEN sequel," says the actor on a parting note.
