Mohit Suri: Comparisons are bound to happen for AASHIQUI 2

Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, who is revisiting his romantic film AASHIQUI, made some 22-years ago, by making AASIHIQUI 2, says it is not a sequel. AASHIQUI 2 has nothing to do with the original film.

Says Mahesh Bhatt, ''It's a franchise and not a sequel. AASHIQUI 2 is a unique product. It has its own world and nothing do with the original film and its characters. We are making the second part after 22 years. And Mohit Suri, who is directing the film, is revisiting it in the phase & space of 21st Century.''


''Mohit has dared to make AASHIQUI 2. He doesn't know how much obstacles and cynical questions he'll have to face for this film,'' he quips.

Quite interestingly, Mohit Suri was eight years old when AASHIQUI released and it was the first film which he saw in theatres. Bhatt reveals, ''It's a pleasant coincidence that Mohit was eight years old at that point of time and the very first film which he saw was AASHIQUI.''

Mohit Suri's forte lies in making dark and passionate films as all his past ventures (MURDER 2, RAAZ 2, AWARAPAN, ZEHER, WOH LAMHE, etc) have been on the same lines. So ask Mohit about dabbling in romantic zone and he says, ''After making films like RAAZ 2, MURDER 2, AWARAPAN, I think this will be an inherent personal growth that I make a romantic film. AASHIQUI has a strong emotion quotient and subtext which I think is an interesting subject that I wanted myself to grow into. As a director I can't keep making, although those films were successful, same type of films again. If I keep repeating the same stuff I will outdo my own self.''

Prod Mohit if it was a strategic decision to make AASHIQUI 2 and he clears, ''Such films are not made strategically. It's just a feeling I wanted to make.''

Mohit has taken up a project where comparisons are bound to happen. However, Mohit is quite prepared for it and has succumbed to the pressures which he'll face while making the film.

He says, ''Expectations and comparisons are bound to happen. Obviously, when I have taken the film I have to succumb to those kinds of pressures otherwise I won't be able to make the film. When I have the backing of passionate people like Mahesh ji and Mukesh ji and with a strong script to go may be I don't feel it any more. Me and my team is dedicated towards it and all we know is this film should turn out very good.''

AASHIQUI 2 is set to go on floors from next month.
