While the medical fraternity may be up in arms in the manner in which they have been supposedly portrayed in Satyamev Jayate, the fact of the matter is that the things have started falling in place. Maharashtra government for example has taken a decision to start selling generic medicines through all its hospitals as also to take initiative to open shops that would sell generic medicines. Minister of State of Health of Maharashtra government has gone on record to acknowledge Aamir Khan's initiative and has announced that he would call up and apprise Aamir Khan personally.

Moot point is why the ministers are going on record to inform the general public about the initiatives that they have undertaken as a follow up of it being highlighted through the episodes of Satyamev Jayate. After all, a policy pronouncement was made by the Government of Maharashtra, in this instance on the issue pertaining to generic medicines, but it needed an Aamir Khan to provide a wakeup call.

What Aamir Khan has also been saying is that he is not on a mission to reform the society, but what he is trying in his own small way to just give a booster shot to the comatose administration as also the society to do what otherwise is required by the society and the administration to undertake in the normal course. No wonder, even Aamir Khan's buddy Salman Khan tweeted and said "Wah yaar Aamir Khan, Tune toh kamaal kar dikha ya."

The political class is slightly ruffled as the issues are brought into the public domain and the fear of being a target of the follow up about the issues on the television channels again are sort of forcing them to initiate steps to address the problems being faced by the common man. For instance, some association of the doctors tried to create pressure on Aamir Khan to apologize for his supposed canard, but Aamir Khan has refused to buckle down.

He should not buckle down indeed and continue to create pressure as it would stir the consciousness of the authorities to start delivering minimum of what is required from them. Brand endorsement of social issues is also the need of the hour, and a celebrity endorsement at that is the requiem for the country and more celebrities need to come forward and shake the conscience of the political class to start taking remedial measures that concern the common man.
