Vidya Balan has created history. She has delivered her fourth consecutive hit in the past two years and the first hit as a solo lead star. The legendary silver screen stars and divas like Madhubala, Nutan, Nargis, Vaijayanti Mala, Hema Malini, Rekha, and a score of others had done strong women-centric roles, yet they could not break the long held and assiduously nurtured myth that heroine oriented films are box-office anathemas.

Vidya Balan has demolished the myth and her extra-ordinary achievement has opened new doors of possibilities for our film actresses who always get billed second to their male counterparts in spite of being more talented than them. The Katrinas, Kareenas, and Priyankas of Bollywood should thank this power-house of an intelligent actress who has blazed a trail that can now be followed by them and others to write their own stories of success. If these actresses wish and have the guts and gumption, they can afford not to be dependent on the Khans and survive by their talent alone by picking up good scripts.

The collections for Vidya Balan's latest release KAHAANI registered a steep rise after a 'not-so-good' Friday (9th March, 2012) and are all set to touch Rs.15 crores (nett) for the weekend. The film is on the way to be declared the second genuine hit of the year and in terms of cost-collection ratio and profitability may even beat the star-studded extravaganza like AGNEEPATH. On the other hand PAAN SINGH TOMAR first crawled and then had a good run at the box-office. If not an all out hit, it may turn out to be an average performer by the end of its second week. It should recover its cost and might even return a small profit to the producers and distributors before dropping off the box office radar. The film is certain to contribute in good measures to establishing Irrfan Khan as a bankable actor and star.
