The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Film Club (www.filmclubamu.com) was established by some enthusiastic faculty members back in 1974 with the aim to promote the cinematic culture among the students of AMU and to encourage a milieu where 'poetry in motion' becomes one of the great sources for their aesthetic and academic excellence. From Kanan Devi, Kulbhushan Kharbanda to Naseeruddin Shah, K A Abbas, Vinod Pandey to Javed Akhtar, Shakil Badauni, Shahryar to Kaifi Azmi, the list of AMU alumni who left their mark in the film fraternity is endless in terms of direction, screenplay, lyrics, music etc.

Apart from academics, it is essential that every student of AMU gets the opportunity to explore the creative world. Keeping this in mind, the University Film Club serves as the platform to provide these opportunities and has studiously undertaken the task of blending conventional education with a sense of aesthetics. Filmsaaz is a National Film Festival of Short Films & Documentaries for Non-feature films. First of its kind in India to be organized by a University, it was first held in 2008 in Aligarh Muslim University, organised by the University Film Club, under the auspices of the General Education Centre.
This festival aims to crave out the hidden talent and inspire an urge among the young filmmakers all over the nation. It is not just another film festival, but is a mission to bring up those to light who think beyond the conventionals.
Likewise, this year too Filmsaaz '12 would be held with all its charms, in the Kennedy Auditorium of the Aligarh Muslim University.
Entries are thus invited under the various categories mentioned from all such budding filmmakers. Last date for dispatch of entries to Filmsaaz' 12 is 26th March, 2012.
