If one is situating a film in a small city, as ISHAQZAADE has been situated in Barabanki, one of the less developed cities in UP, then the telltale signs of the city, in particular the signs with which youth identify or have an element of nostalgia associated with it, are included as a part of the oeuvre it adds magic to the narration.

For the youth of the country who has grown on Japanese bikes, at least during a decade or so, to understand the magic of a Yezdi bike, which has been the bike given to the character of Arjun Kapoor in ISHAQZAADE, one has to see to believe it. These bikes which used to have an element of gay abandon with them, yes one could zoom off on them, have had one of the most romantic songs of Hindi cinema pictured on them, 'Ek Raasta hai Zindagi' from KAALA PATTHAR being one of them. Incidentally, Yezdi was the bike which was all Indian, produced in a factory at Mysore-sadly enough the factory has now closed down.

The popularity of Yezdi bike lay in the fact that it was slightly lighter than a bullet, could gain speed fast one could zip on to it, and for the film stars who did not want to convey the image of a macho but wished to be rugged Yezdi was the favored bike. For Habib Faisal the director of ISHAQZAADE who would have grown around that time when Yezdis used to rule the roost it would be an interesting rewind down the memory lane. As a matter of fact universities and colleges around those times used to buzz with the sound of Yezdis and through ISHAQZAADE it would be an interesting rewind to an era gone by. Bikes and girls have an organic relationship, guys having bikes most of the times we're able to get girls in the college rather easily and the trend continues to this day, only the models and packagings have changed. The world of cinema for that matter has had an interesting relationship with cinema and one of the iconic pictures MOTORCYCLE DIARIES is a saga of self-discovery that made Che Guvera, the revolutionary, he ultimately became. These old rugged bikes have had an element of rebel in them, and it is the element of ruggedness that is the premise of ISHAQZAADE as well. One only hopes that as a tribute to this bike, Yash Raj films would have a special screening of the ISHAQZADE in Mysore and it would indeed give a shot in the arm to this cinematic city of India which has been witness to quite a large number of films being shot over its picturesque surroundings.
