Rajkumar Hirani himself confirmed this during the first song launch event of FERRARI KI SAWAARI, the latest film of Vidhu Vinod Chopra Productions, being readied for release on 15th June, 2012. He also mentioned that he had promised Sanjay Dutt that he would direct three films for him. There has been a lot of speculation about it.
There was news that DO DOONI CHAAR and ISHAQZAADE helmer Habib Faisal was in touch with Rajkumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra. He was hotly tipped to direct the next installment of the blockbuster franchise. Faisal had confirmed to the media that such a possibility was being explored.
What has made Rajkumar Hirani to direct the film himself now? Is it because he wanted to keep his promise to Sanju Baba? He will be doing it only after PEEKEY, and when he is fully satisfied with the MUNNABHAI 3 script. Surprisingly, we have seen so many flip-flops happening on the issue. The film was conceived immediately after LAGE RAHO MUNNABHAI . However, before it could go on the floor Hirani got busy with 3 IDIOTS.
Afterwards, there were rumors that Aamir Khan will be doing the film. Suddenly out of the blue came the news that Rajkumar Hirani was ready with another film PEEKAY and it would be shot in December 2012 with Aamir playing the lead.
MUNNABHAI 3 was left in the lurch again. Why? Because its script was not finalized. However, during the Vidhu Vinod Chopra retrospective we were informed that the MUNNABHAI 3 script was almost ready. That is when Habib Faisal's name sprung up from nowhere. Can it be the case that Sanju Baba struck Habib's name down and insisted on Hirani keeping his promise? Hirani cannot do that until he finishes Aamir's film. This means Sanju Baba will have to wait till the release of PEEKAY for his film to go on the floor.
