Though he has enjoyed a good stint down South, Prabhu Deva feels that he has some way to go before he establishes himself firmly in Bollywood as well. Though one would have expected him to begin another film soon after WANTED, he chose to wait before ROWDY RATHORE came his way. With Akshay Kumar already on board, the task was cut out for Prabhu Deva to bring his own flavour to the genre.
"Yes, Shabina (Khan) was already in talks with Akshay sir and he was on for the film. I too had loved the film's original (VIKRAMARKUDU) and was convinced about making it with Akshay. I truly believe that the role is tailor-made for him. Moreover the genre is also working with today's audience who haven't seen the 'masala' films of the 80s. We all felt that this was a perfect film to make with all the right ingredients in place," says Prabhu Deva.
However even in the process of making this 80s style 'bhelpuri', the team was sure about making it suitable for the contemporary audience so that the end product didn't look outdated.
"Yes, just like WANTED where we had retained the original concept but changed things around Salman bhai, same is the case with ROWDY RATHORE as well," Prabhu Deva adds, "Since the emotional angle involving a child is quite strong in the film, we haven't changed that. However other things like the love story, songs, comedy portions as well as the action have gone through a sea change."
With music by Sajid-Wajid, ROWDY RATHORE releases all over on 1st June.
