Bollywood actress Vidya Balan has played myriad characters in her career from a bong in PARINEETA to south siren in THE DIRTY PICTURE. And now the hottie is seen doing a Marathi folk dance lavani in Vinod Chopra's upcoming film FERRARI KI SAWAARI.
Vidya shares her long time desire for lavani and her experience turning a lavani dancer. She says, ''It was my dream to do a lavani. I would actually go down telling people that if you have lavani in your film please let me know... I always thought lavani is done only in Marathi films. But I was amazed to receive a message from Mr. Chopra saying that 'Will you do a lavani?' for FERRARI KI SAWARI. I had a great time doing lavani and I drove my choreographer Stanley nuts for this song.''
''Usually I don't enjoy dancing much because I am not really a dancer. I have to put in lot of efforts. But we worked hard for this number and once I reached the sets I went mad dancing,'' adds the beautiful actress.
After doing the traditional dance form, Vidya is now keen to do Marathi films. ''I always wanted to do a Marathi film. There's great work happening in Marathi Cinema. So inshallah something soon I hear from that industry!,'' says the National Award winning actress Vidya Balan, who has proved her mettle in Bollywood.
Despite being an untrained dancer, Vidya didn't receive any flak for the song. On the contrary the actress was appreciated for her dance performance in the film.
Vidya says, ''I haven't come across any criticism yet for this song. In fact I would like to add here that someone actually called me up and said that you reminded of the authentic lavani dancers and took some names, who I would not, out of respect, take their names. But I have only received praise and I am just happy I did it. I am happy for myself and glad that people are liking it.''
