Pre-Diwali is that time of the year when most filmmakers shy away from releasing their films. The reason is that there are always one or two big star cast, big banner films listed for release the very next week, and even the audience does not throng the theaters, as they await these hugely hyped Diwali blockbusters. And most films which do release in the pre-Diwali phase, fail to get even a half decent response!
However, this year Vikram Bhatt's Aftab-Tia starrer, 1920 - EVIL RETURNS, which released alongside half a dozen films, (including James Bond SKYFALL) has smashed the myth. The film is likely to be the surprise big hit on this side of the year as it has not only scored during the weekend (as we had informed) but is also quite stable during the weekdays.
The opening week looks like anything in the range of 18-19 crore, and had it not been for a pre-mature end (due to the mid-week Diwali releases), 1920-EVIL RETURNS would have been an even bigger success, more so due to its quite reasonable (8-9 crore) landing cost.
