Dilip Kumar to receive Bimal Roy Trophy

In a programme organized to pay tribute to Salli Chowdhury at St. Andrews Auditorium, Bandra (W), Mumbai, on November 19th, Monday, 7.00 pm, Bimal Roy Memorial and Film Society will honor the veteran thespian Dilip Kumar with the Bimal Roy Trophy. Well-known music composer Pyarelal will also be honored in the function dedicated to Salil Chowdhury who was renowned for his evocative compositions, and was a multi-faceted genius a writer, poet, dramatist, and composer of over 400 songs in many Indian languages.
Other recipients of awards are Editor Waman Bhonsale, film academic Father Gaston Roberge, and emerging director Shoojit Sircar of VICKY DONOR fame.
The programme will be presented by Shekhar Sen, an eminent theatre personality himself. He will showcase unknown aspects of Chowdhury's life and works, focusing on the maestro's invaluable contributions to the world of poetry and music. Chowdhury's mastery over background scores will be illustrated with a projection from the Bimal Roy film MADHUMATI; the outstanding pastoral score of this film enhanced the lyricism of the hills, and is truly of an international standard.
Singers Babul Supriyo, Mahalaxmi Iyer, Saagar Kendurkar, Shailaja Subramanium, Surjit Nandi, and Sangeeta Malekar will recreate the lilt and rhythm of Chowdhury's compositions. The live orchestra will be conducted by Anand Sahasrabudhe.
