Madhur Bhandarkar boasts of HEROINE's success with facts and figures
October 10, 2012 12:02:29 PM IST By Rajesh Kumar Singh, Glamsham Editorial
Singed by poor reviews of his latest film HEROINE, Madhur Bhandarkar resorts to quoting an Australian film actor/director Yahoo Serious to underline his point of view in his blog. According to Mr. Serious a filmmaker should find his own specific voice in filmmaking and go for it. "Either people will get it or they won't and that's what it's all about."
Madhur follows the credo of Mr. Serious in all seriousness and the only thing that matters to him is what his audience thinks of his films and the honesty of their narratives. And though he respects criticism, he goes by his convictions alone. He adds that had this not been the case, he would not have traveled thus far - from CHANDNI BAR to HEROINE.
He is convinced that the film has done very well at box office. According to him HEROINE was made on a controlled budget of Rs 21 crs and released at the cost of Rs 32cr with print and publicity, and it has collected Rs 53.5 crs worldwide by the second week. This is a phenomenal verdict for a heroine-oriented film in his view. He also talks about HEROINE getting the highest opening for a female oriented film. However, even if we go by his figures, HEROINE probably will be able to recover its cost only if we add up the prospective ancillary revenues to the total given by him. It must make at least Rs.70 crore net to recover its cost through its theatrical business, which seems a far cry under the circumstances.
