It was way back in 2001 when actor Arjun Rampal made a strong impact with Rajiv Rai's PYAAR ISHQ AUR MOHABBAT, and even though the film failed at the box-office, Arjun was flooded with offers. Quite a few films later and despite having worked with several top actresses like Aishwarya Rai (DIL KA RISHTA), Preity Zinta (DIL HAI TUMHARA), Priyanka Chopra (YAKEEN) etc, Arjun could not make his mark as a lead actor and most of his films flopped at the ticket window.
It was Shahrukh Khan who was responsible for his comeback as Arjun received a whole lot of praise and accolades for DON-THE CHASE BEGINS (2006). And just a year later it was with OM SHANTI OM, once again a SRK film that Arjun tasted success, rewards and accolades and things were on a roll once again for Arjun.
Then followed successful films like ROCK ON (2008), HOUSEFULL (2010) and RAJNEETI (2010) and Arjun's popularity simply soared sky high. Despite RA.ONE not doing well as expected, Arjun stood up tall against the 'baadshah' Shah Rukh Khan and was much appreciated. But alas! Arjun is yet to make his mark as a lead hero as even during his second comeback his solo venture, Dharma Production's WE ARE FAMILY (2010) opposite top heroines like Kajol and Kareena failed at the box office.
However it appears that all that is about to change with Prakash Jha's CHAKRAVYUH, where the audience will once again get to see Arjun Rampal in the lead role of a police officer. Giving him able support is Abhay Deol.
The promos of the film show that Prakash Jha is well and truly in his elements as one can foresee an edge of the seat action drama and since the film is based on the topical subject of 'Naxal' movement (which has plagued quite a few parts of the country), one can expect the film going audience to patronize it in a big way.
CHAKRAVYUH sees a Dussehra, that is October 24th (Wednesday) release and we surely hope for Arjun that the film ensures him his first success as the lead actor.
