Where many a girls strive to be associated with at least one super star from the industry, Sonakshi, in her initial years itself, got the opportunity to work with the three top A-league actors - Salman, Akshay and Ajay.
Sonakshi says, "I feel truly blessed. I feel someone somewhere up likes me. Having said that, I would like to say luck can only work up to a level after that it's all your hard work that determines where you will head. I started my career with Salman and then merged with Akshay and now Ajay. To sustain this I worked very hard. Today I can't settle for anything less or give my audience or the people with whom I work anything less."
Despite the presence of reigning superstars of Bollywood Salman, Akshay, Ajay, who have been in the industry for two decades, Sonakshi looks quite confident in her portrayal. Tell her about it and she says, "I have got it from father. He is very confident, a good speaker and a wonderful person. My confidence and talent comes from him and my looks & sweetness comes from my mother."
Ever since she stepped in the filmdom, Sonakshi's heavy figure and looks have been talk of the town. She has been often criticized for it or taken dig at.
Ask Sonakshi how she takes criticism and she says, "I am very open to criticism. I get it every day," she continues in same vein, "It actually depends upon person to person. Any person in my position who faces so much criticism for looking a certain way would have crumbled by now. I am a very strong person. I believe in working hard and giving my best...People are coming to me with their films that means they have accepted me in a certain way..."
"Nobody is anybody to criticize me for the way I look. I have worked hard to reach this position. I have lost 30 kilos to get into the industry. I know what kind of emotional struggle I went through so nobody has the right to comment on it. Nobody can raise fingers on me. And I am doing the kind of films that don't require me to be size zero. They don't require me too wear certain kind of clothes. So I am very comfortable and happy with it," she further adds in a resentful tone.
The quintessential traditional Indian look, which was quite popularized by the likes of Juhi Chawla, Sridevi, etc, was missing until Sonakshi made her debut in a desi avatar. Laud Sona for bringing it in vogue with e'lan and she says, "It did not disappear but yes it was not seen on regular basis. But yes now it's returning again. Indians are going back to their roots in terms of the kind of cinema they want to see. It functions like fashion industry where after every 20 year span the trend returns. In a similar way, we can see the see re-emergence of the quintessential desi look returning with bang and I feel lucky to be part of it."
