In their years of filmmaking, Yash Raj Films had a standing rule of making films only with established (or reasonably experienced) actors. Though they did launch a leading lady or two, when it came to the male leads it was a strict no-no. However they changed their strategy by not just bringing Ranveer Singh on the arena (with BAND BAAJA BAARAAT) but also Arjun Kapoor (ISHAQZAADE). Now one can see other major production houses driven by Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala bringing a change in approach as well.

''It's the need of the situation. At the end of the day you can't keep working with only 8-10 stars and superstars that Bollywood has today,'' says an industry insider, ''Out of 100 odd Bollywood films made every year, there are at least 50-60 major films which are big to medium budgeted and need stars. It is better to groom new talent as well than just rely on the ones who have been around for long.''
Same strategy has been followed in choosing directors as well and Yash Raj Films, Dharma Productions as well as Nadiadwala Grandson have been giving break to new directors on a constant note.
''Karan Johar has brought so many new directors in the industry and is now also launching three newcomers with STUDENT OF THE YEAR. Aditya Chopra continues to bring in new talent with three film deals while Sajid Nadiadwala, who doesn't quite enforce such diktat, is also launching Tiger Shroff. He gave break to Sajid Khan and Sabbir Khan and while former went on to score three major successes with him, latter is getting second opportunity with HEROPANTI. Clearly, each of them has an eye on new talent doing the trick,'' the insider adds.
Of course superstars are not going out of equation for any one of them. While Karan has films planned with Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Emraan Hashmi to name a few, Yash Raj is working with the best in business and has films lined-up with Shahrukh Khan and Aamir Khan no less. Meanwhile Sajid Nadiadwala has an ace up his sleeves with Salman Khan's KICK and would also be beginning films with Hrithik Roshan and Ranbir Kapoor.
