HEROINE is a film that brings back Madhur Bhandarkar into the zone that he is known for. Since he had taken an interim break of sorts by directing a comedy (DIL TOH BACCHA HAI JI), was it like coming back into a familiar territory with HEROINE?
''There is nothing of that sorts,'' says Bhandarkar, ''As a filmmaker I was happy to make DIL TOH BACCHA HAI JI as I didn't want to restrict myself to any genre. As for the zone then well even that movie was quite reminiscent of the kind of cinema I make. The film was not slapstick and was pretty much in the premise of Bhandarkar cinema. Same holds good for HEROINE too. It is a slice of life film and there are things that you read in newspapers or watch on TV channels that do inspire you. As a filmmaker, you tend to incorporate such elements in your films and I have done that as well.''
As for the making of HEROINE, he goes on to add, ''Don't forget that I started work on the film much before DIL TOH BACCHA HAI JI went on floors. Also, I don't quite follow any set norms before starting my films. After PAGE 3 and CORPORATE , I went ahead and made TRAFFIC SIGNAL . FASHION was out and out glamorous but immediately after that I made a dark and gloomy film in the form of JAIL which carried half its budget. Now that I have made HEROINE, it doesn't mean that each of my forthcoming films would be big budgeted. Who knows, tomorrow I may end up making a children's film.''
