Though there was little to choose between the two new releases of last Friday, T-Series' NAUTANKI SAALA and Vipul Shah's COMMANDO-A ONE MAN ARMY, on the opening day, the turn of event on the next two days of the weekend went as per our predictions, as in our Saturday box- office update.
Despite having more prints and opening well at the single screens the Vidyut Jammwal starrer, COMMANDO, started lagging behind Ayushmann Khurrana starrer from Saturday itself, with NAUTANKI SAALA picking up almost 25-30 percent. On the contrary the collections of COMMANDO fell by 10-15 percent. The last day of the weekend, Sunday again saw a surge in collections for NAUTANKI SAALA while COMMANDO too saw a nominal pick up, but it was not substantial enough.
Coming to the number crunching, NAUTANKI SAALA ended with a healthy weekend in the range of 13-14 crore (to be validated), thanks to the positive word-of-mouth. In case of COMMANDO, the film could not capitalize on the opening day enthusiasm at the single screens and ended up netting 10-11 crore (to be validated) during the weekend.
To end the column on a lighter note, the leading man of NAUTANKI SAALA, Ayushmann Khurrana, has beaten his own opening day record by a substantial margin, in fact doubling what VICKY DONOR earned on the first day. To elaborate VICKY DONOR had netted about 1.70 crore on the opening day while NAUTANKI SAALA managed about 3-5-3.6 crore on the first Friday!
