That is how it looks. If you really believe in lucky charms and are a filmmaker keen to showcase your work in the numero uno film festival of the world, the one lucky charm with nearly 100% success rate is the Indian actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, the most wanted actor by art house filmmakers in India. It's incredible but true. The Nawazuddin saga truly started blooming and blossoming last year.
This year, so far, all the three films that have joined the Cannes Indian line up, BOMBAY TALKIES (Special Screening as Tribute to India), MONSOON SHOOTOUT (Midnight Screening) and DABBA (Critics' Week Competition), have one thing in common. All of them have Nawazuddin Siddiqui in their cast, playing pivotal roles.
It gets even deadlier and luckier when Nawaz's charm combines with Anurag Kashyap and Guneet Monga. Two of the above-mentioned films DABBA and MONSOON SHOOTOUT are produced or co-produced by the duo who seem to have a knack to back film projects that eventually turn out to be festival favorites. They have created a record of some sort in the past few years and nearly all their films have been traveling to the major film festivals around the world.
