While Rajnikanth may not have been able to make his mark in the world of Hindi cinema, he is a god in Tamil cinema and the kind of box office loyalty that he commands would be envy for any star around the country side. Perhaps Shahrukh Khan has taken a leaf out from the success story of Rajnikanth and he dabbled in the genre patented by Rajnikanth to some extent and has gone whole hog in CHENNAI EXPRESS to endear to the audience and expand the outreach of his fan following.
SHAHRUKH KHAN and RAJNIKANTH
Rajnikanth is a god owing to the phenomenal fan following that he has, and his fan following comes from the common man out there on the street who workships him as the god. While SRK has had a tremendous fan following around the world, the kind of adulation that Rajnikanth commands is envy for any other actor, and even Big B has gone on record to acknowledge it.
Perhaps this could also have been the trigger for SRK to join hands with Rohit Shetty and create the ambiance Rajnikanth style to cultivate a new band of followers all across the countryside, more so in down South.
SRK has a lineage as well to connect with the audience down South, after all he was born and brought up for a while in Karnataka, and if one were to seek analogies, then Rajnikanth also has an organic link with Karnataka, as the first job, before entering the world of entertainment industry was as a bus conductor in Bangalore.
The tell-tale signs of commonality between Rajnikanth style of movies and SRK were quite evident for the fans in R.A. ONE and CHENNAI EXPRESS would seek its culmination on a much wider canvas. Perhaps as a tribute to the master, most of the CHENNAI EXPRESS has been shot down South. It also goes without saying that SRK had - had one of the most successful songs of his career shot down South - 'Chaiya Chaiya' for DIL SE.
It indeed would be interesting to watch out within how the fans accept CHENNAI EXPRESS, and whether SRK has been able to attract some fans of Rajnikanth towards himself?
