On the auspicious occasion of Independence Day, today Glamsham.Com proudly unravels the final day scenario at National Stadium, Delhi, when Lata Mangeshkar mesmerized the gathering with her patriotic number Aye Mere Watan Ke Logon... Read on....

The event was held on 16th October 1962 at National Stadium, Delhi. People poured in thousands from every nook and corner of the country, resulting in gate crushing. However, the authorities didn't become rude, as the show was meant for the general public.

The show began with Lata's Bhajan  'Allah Tero naam...' amidst resounding applause, but not the kind, the next participant, Titan Mohd. Rafi drew because his song - 'Apni Azaadi Ko Hum Hargeez Mita Sakte Nahin.' Was an 'All New' number, whereas, Lata Mangeshkar's 'Allah Tero Naam...' had already been exposed to masses via Dev Anand's movie - HUM DONO.

Since the audience had come to listen something unheard, hence Mohd. Rafi's, Shakeel Badani written and Naushad composed number 'Apni Azaadi ko...' which was exposed to the general public much before its release in Dilip Kumar's movie 'LEADER' took the people by storm. The people went fanatic over the Rafi's number. The overwhelming response was of a kind that had to be heard to believe. It looked as if the show had been stolen by Mohd. Rafi

But all was not over, as the 'Trump Card' was still held by C. Ramchandra, who finally took the center stage towards the climax, with a lively rhythmic beats of drums playing in the background. As the sound of the drum beats faded, stepped Lata Mangeshkar, with her sweeter than honey tone, rendering the 'Totally Fresh' Kavi Pradeep's song 'Aye Mere Watan Ke Logon...'

Each word of this mind-boggling lyric penetrated like a bullet into the hearts of the seated audience and with Lata's mellifluous voice, Kavi Pradeep's soulful appeal 'Zaraa Aankh Mein Bhar Lo Paani' worked magic as not only Prime Minister of India Pt. Nehru was in tears, so were the audience!!!

Till the song climaxed there was pin-drop silence all around. When the song ended, suddenly, the stadium vibrated into a thunderous sound of claps, whistles and applause of 'Once More!!!'

Rest is history, with Pt. Nehru ascending the stage to embrace Lata and complimenting her with those historic lines, ''Ladki tune humein aaj rula diya..!
The other 'Major' 'Unknown' facet behind this song is that, Kavi Pradeep, 'The Real Hero' of this song was regrettably not able to attend the function and empathies with Lata and C. Ramchandra. However seated in the crowd was a young man who was Mr. Nobody than but today the world recognizes him as Star of Millennium Amitabh Bachchan!

And last but not the least Aye Mere Watan Ke Logon... was the 'Solo' song from the function to be 'overnight' recorded by H.M.V. and day next it was on Nationals lip via Radio-Vividh Bharati!!!
