The new release of the week, Milan Luthria's ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAI DOBAARA opened to an impressive response (85-100 percent) on Independence day. Despite a limited release, the opening day saw the film netting in excess of 10 crore from India.
The Akshay, Imran and Sonakshi starrer, OUATIMD, which expanded to 2500 screens on the second day (Friday), maintained the tempo (but with lower occupancies), despite a working day and is expected to mop up anything from 12-13 crore (as per early estimates). The film is expected to end the first weekend (extended) with an impressive haul. Not only that, reports filtering in from the overseas are also quite encouraging.
Meanwhile, Rohit Shetty's Shahrukh-Deepika starrer, CHENNAI EXPRESS, continued its record breaking run even during the second weekend. The film ended the first week netting in excess of 150 crore from India (including paid previews), thus shattering the first seven day record of Salman Khan's EK THA TIGER by about 12-13 crore.
Needless to add that in the overseas, where Shahrukh Khan is almost unchallenged, CHENNAI EXPRESS continues to set new records, which will stand there for a while.
