Despite his unconventional looks (quite unlike a typical Bollywood star!), the talent of master actor, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, has helped him carve out a space for himself in the world of cinema. The best of actors from parallel cinema have been found wanting and conscious when confronted with top commercial stars, but not Nawaz as he held his own against one of the all-time best actors of Hindi cinema, Aamir Khan, in Reema Kagti's TALAASH. No wonder he walked away with the National Award (jury) for his performance in films like KAHAANI, TALAASH, DEKH INDIAN CIRCUS and GANGS OF WASSEYPUR 2.
When we caught with Nawaz, he was at the Bangalore airport, on way to his home town, Muzaffarnagar via Delhi. Surprisingly Nawaz was not in Bangalore for a film shoot (as we thought) and he pleasantly shocked us by saying, ''I am here for a fashion shoot. '' When we asked him about his experience he said, ''Yes, it is a new experience, but it went off quite well.''
What next, we prodded him further and he said, ''Nothing for the moment. I am going home to Budhana (District Muzaffarnagar-U.P.), as it has been long overdue. After that there are a lot of scripts that I have to go through. As you are aware, I only do the roles and characters that are after my heart. Just because I am in circulation (right now) I won't go on a signing spree. You know me!''
Not willing to let him go of so easily we asked him to sign a few commercial films, and Nawaz put the ball squarely in our court saying, ''I will discuss that with you because the experience that you people have (of commercial cinema) will definitely help me make a few important decisions in my career,'' said Nawaz as a parting shot.
