While there has been news floating around CHALO CHINA, sequel to CHALO DILLI, for last few days now, there was no official word from those involved. However, after some dilly-dallying, all logistics have been put together for the film and an announcement is ready to be made. CHALO CHINA is definitely on and while it would mark a comeback of Lara Dutta and Vinay Pathak after the much loved prequel, it would have a change in director.
VINAY PATHAK AND LARA DUTTA
Instead of Shashant Shah, who was the originator of CHALO DILLI, the director at the helm of affairs would be Shashank Ghosh.
"Though there were quite a few ifs and buts surrounding Shashank being at the helm of affairs, it can be said beyond doubt that he is on. In fact Shashant had been cool enough to admit that he wasn't on board for the sequel and even wished luck to whoever was at the driving seat for the sequel. As has turned out, it is his (almost) namesake Shashank who would be calling the shots. As we talk, work is on in full swing for the film while Lara and Vinay are setting up their calendar to accommodate the film," informs a source.
Shashank, who is known for his whacky sense of humour, courtesy films like WAISA BHI HOTA HAI - PART II and QUICK GUN MURUGAN, is gearing up to go full throttle on CHALO CHINA which, expectedly, would be shot in China. It is still unclear though whether the film would begin from where CHALO DILLI ended and if Lara and Vinay would be reprising the same characters as before.
On contacted, producer Krishika Lulla, who has backed both CHALO DILLI and CHALO CHINA, confirmed the developments, "Shashant Shah isn't directing the sequel since he is very busy and can't give time to the film. Now it is Shashank on board. He has come up with something really terrific and Lara as well as Vinay are supercharged."
As for the film's shooting plans, she said, "We are trying to bring the film on floors this year and release next year."
