Good to fair start for SATYAGRAHA, MADRAS CAFE succeeds!

Once again as per expectations, the new release of the week, Prakash Jha's Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Manoj Bajpayee, Arjun Rampal, Kareena Kapoor and Amrita Rao starrer, SATYAGRAHA, saw a good to fair start. The best collections came from Central India, Eastern UP and Bihar. While the collections at some screens were as high as 70 percent plus, at the remaining places occupancies varied from 30 to 50 percent.
With the word-of-mouth being confusing, as it ranged from good (thanks to Amitabh Bachchan's towering performance!), to alright, as none of the other stars (barring Manoj and Amrita) could put up a worthwhile performance. Given that SATYAGRAHA has released on a high number of screens (2750), the film is expected to see a good weekend haul.
Meanwhile, last Friday's Shoojit Sircar directed, John Abraham starrer, MADRAS CAFE put up a good and stable performance (even during the weekdays), netting 33 crore (to be validated) during the opening week.
MADRAS CAFE is already an average fare and will improve its status further. Checking out Milan Luthria's Akshay, Imran and Sonakshi starrer, ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAI DOBAARA, the film crossed it's prequel, ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI, by adding 8 crore, thus netting 60 crore (to be validated) in two weeks from India.
While on, Rohit Shetty's Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer, CHENNAI EXPRESS, the film went past Aamir Khan's 3 IDIOTS' record (202 crore) and has thus become the highest netter for a Hindi film. While the exact total is still being compiled, as per initial estimations, CHENNAI EXPRESS has netted in the range of 208-209 crore at the end of its third week (including paid previews).
