Sidharth Malhotra: STUDENT OF THE YEAR was once in a lifetime role
December 19, 2013 05:42:53 PM IST By Joginder Tuteja, Glamsham Editorial
Sidharth Malhotra was hardly a teenager when he was required to play one in his debut film STUDENT OF THE YEAR. Now in his second release HASEE TOH PHASEE, he is pretty much playing a youngster in the mid-20s, which is closer to his real age.
'I can't remember anyone who came as a school kid in his first film. This happened in STUDENT OF THE YEAR and it helped me connect with the target audience as they felt that yeh toh hamaare jaisa hi hai,' says Sidharth.
That's true, considering the fact that when Ranbir debuted (in SAAWARIYA), he wasn't playing a school boy but instead had a hero launch. Imran Khan too was slightly older as a college guy (in JAANE TU YA JAANE NAA).
When it comes to HASEE TOH PHASEE though, Sidharth is now upping the ante and playing someone slightly much more mature.
As for his earlier stint as a teenager, Sidharth doesn't have any regrets and instead feels that it was just the right start for him.
'STUDENT OF THE YEAR was once in a lifetime role for a newcomer. This is the reason why youngsters reacted to it in such a big way,' says Sidharth.
If the promos are any indication, HASEE TOH PHASEE - which is slated for 7th Feb release - isn't designed as one of those larger than life extravagant affairs that are otherwise, associated with the name Karan Johar. Coming in of Anurag Kashyap as another producer means that there are twin sensibilities that work here which are promising to merge entertainment with realism.
