Expletives toned down in Akshay Kumar's SPECIAL 26

Though the uncensored promo of SPECIAL 26,which was released online, features a couple of expletives being mouthed by Akshay Kumar and Manoj Bajpai, this isn't the case in the final cut of thefilm which has made to the big screen. This was a voluntary call that was taken by the makers since they wanted SPECIAL 26 to reach out to a much wider audience.
Confirms director Neeraj Pandey, 'Yes, we have toned it all down in the movie. We kept it in the promo as we wanted to come up with the right communication around what audience could expect in the film by means of situations and characterisation. However this isn't something that we wanted to hold on to. After all, we are catering to the family audience with the film.'
For Neeraj, this was also a personal choice as from a niche A WEDNESDAY, he was looking at covering a much bigger target audience base with SPECIAL 26. However, the fact also remains that it took a lot of time for him to move on from one film to another. 'Yes, it did take some time. I was still working though. I was involved in the production of my Marathi film that took a lot of time for me,'' he says.
Still, with A WEDNESDAY turning out to be a cult movie, wasn't it ironic that on one side he had made a film that was turning out to be timeless classic while on the other side it was taking a lot of time for him to even start his next?
Says Neeraj after a long pause, 'You know what, this is quite amazingly put! I really didn't even think about that; something like that didn't come to my mind ever.'
The obvious question is, 'what next'? 'Well, I am looking at a Hindi production which is tentatively titled AMAN KI ASHA. It is comedy that I have written and E. Niwas would be directing it. Ali Zafar, Yami Gautam, Kirron Kher and Anupam Kher are already on board for the film. Meanwhile I am also working on starting my next directorial venture.'
