''Director Anand Kumar wanted them in but somehow things were not falling in place. The film has been mounted on a huge scale and there were several actors whose dates had to be matched. Let's not forget that other than the principal protagonists, there are also Paresh Rawal, Ravi Kishan, Chandrachur Singh and other actors in important roles. Just to coordinate the date diary for all actors was a Herculean task in itself,'' informs a source.
Eventually the cast turned out to be much bigger than what Anand could have ever imagined.
''Yes, when I started working on ZILA GHAZIABAD, it was a much smaller project,'' admits Anand, ''For Dutt saab's role, I was thinking of Sonu Sood. Even Arbaaz was almost in and in fact he helped me with the screenplay. I remember setting the film in the 80s itself and giving it a period look and feel. However it was Arbaaz who suggested that I avoid doing that since it would be quite a challenge in itself. He was a huge pillar of support though. Later he got busy but then helped me get Sanjay Dutt on board. Then Vivek Oberoi and Arshad Warsi came in. It all worked out just perfect.''
Now we hope to see a perfect gangster film in the offering as well.
