Prateik's ISSAQ may have managed to impress Salman Khan no less. However given the fact that it has a Romeo & Juliet base to it with a Banaras setting, there have been speculations if the film would entice memories of ISHAQZAADE and RAANJHANAA.

"Both films have been good hits at the box office. ISHAQZAADE had two youngsters from warring families falling in love with each other, as was the legend of Romeo & Juliet. On the other hand RAANJHANAA had a Banaras setting to it with a twisted plot centred on a couple which found itself in unusual situations. Now ISSAQ has both. It has Prateik and newcomer Amyra Dastur falling in love despite all the adversities around them and that too in the city of Banaras. Moreover, the makers have pretty much flaunted the fact that the film is based on Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet," comments an observer.

On his end, director Manish Tiwary (who made his directorial debut with an impressive DIL DOSTI ETC a few years back, is undeterred by the talks of his film being inspired by the two Bollywood hits.

"ISHAQZAADE never claimed to be based on Romeo & Juliet. As a matter of fact it was an adaptation of Aamir-Juhi's QAYAMAT SE QAYAMAT TAK which just took a couple of lines from the Shakespearean tragedy," says Tiwary, "As for Banaras then well, any two stories which are shot around the banks of Ganga and in the small lanes cannot be deemed similar."

Talking about his violent tale of love, passion and anger, Manish says, "Ours is an entirely different story. Yes, we have taken up the cliche's of Bollywood but then did things in our own way. It is a successful formula of course that we have adapted but there is a huge difference in the way we have narrated ISSAQ in comparison to an ISHAQZAADE or a RAANJHANAA."
