For his critically acclaimed and commercially successful directorial outing OMG - OH, MY GOD!, director Umesh Shukla had kept it all 'desi' and rustic. While the film dealt with was 'religion', a subject close to heart of millions, the story telling too was entirely set in India. Not just that as most of the shoot was indoors with theatre like sets.
However Shukla is now taking a different route for his Abhishek Bachchan starrer which would boast of a much lavish presentation with a global shoot to boast of. While OMG - OH MY GOD! was made on controlled costs, his new film with T-Series would be budgeted much higher.
"Umesh is making his next much bigger, and hopefully even better," says a source, "A major part of the film would be shot on outdoor locations in South Africa. Since the very subject of the film demands a lavish big screen experience, both Umesh and Bhushan Kumar are going all out to mount the film on a huge scale."
As an immediate step around this, Umesh is flying down to South Africa along with his technical team for a recce.
For Umesh, who started his career with a much modestly budgeted DHOONDTE REH JAOGE (with Kunal Khemu) and then graduated to the Paresh Rawal & Akshay Kumar starrer, this new film is pretty much akin to stepping into an altogether different terrain. No pun intended.
Now one waits to see how the filmmaker, who kept it all grounded in OMG - OH MY GOD, heads for the sky once he travels overseas for his next. Stay tuned!
