Amitabh Bachchan added another feather to his cap as he was awarded the lifetime achievement awards, titled the Whistling Woods Maestro Award by Whistling Woods International. The award was also given to Pt. Shivkumar Sharma & Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasiya. The awards were present at the 6th Annual convocation of the institute.
Said Amitabh Bachchan, ''I'm delighted by the fact that Whistling Woods as an institution has concentrated its energies and resources in building a future generation of our cinema. It is encouraging young talent, young makers and young directors and performers to carry forward the legacy of this wonderful film industry, which all of you will be very proud of. I certainly am. We are the largest film industry in the world in the number of films that we are making and even though the west is more popular perhaps in certain respects, and even though they are a lot more wealthier than us, I do not think that we lack in wealth as far as our talent is concerned. I think our talent and creative matches the very best in the world. It is the duty now of the younger generation to take this talent forward.''
He further added, ''There is a great amount of awareness of India and what India does in the rest of the world. Cinema is a very pertinent element of what the rest of the world thinks of our country. The rest of the world is very eager to know what we do next.''
Amitabh Bachchan also expressed his desire to get formal education.
''I was never fortunate to study film and film craft at a film institute. I never knew about the institute the government was running in Pune. Even today I wish I had the opportunity to improve my craft, to get some knowledge of the technicalities and see how I could perform better in front of the camera. I still look forward to that opportunity,'' said the 70-years-young actor.
The Big B was all praises for the younger generation and believed that Indian Cinema has a huge potential to grow.
''I am most impressed by the younger generation today. I see the films that they make, I see the performances that they do and I'm absolutely amazed with the kind of effort and work that they put in in their very first outing. It took us many many films and many many outings to understand the craft before we could finally deliver something which others felt was good. We still feel that we haven't done our best. But I think that this is a wonderful period for Indian Cinema. And let me tell you that Indian Cinema is going to improve, is going to expand and is going to become much much larger than what you see it today. Cinema and media is the future of the world.''
