Dear Sree Swara Dubey,

Congratulations on a fantastic performance in D-DAY. Truly, yours was not only a memorable debut, but it also left a lasting impression on the viewer. After the last bullet was spent, after the last dialogue said, yours was the face that I left the theatre with. The last scene was traumatic. You blasted yourself into the hearts of the viewers and embedded yourself in the mind with a performance very real.

A performance like this from a first-timer has to be applauded. And I am sure, when the awards routine begins early next year; you will be called up to pick a lot many. If the four (Irrfan, Arjun Rampal, Akash Dhaiya and Huma Qureshi) were busy closing-in on their target, you hit bull's eye with your performance in totality. Mother, wife, woman in love, home-maker... you were just another character in the film... but you walked out a winner. You are a natural.

Welcome to Bollywood!

So who am I to welcome you to Bollywood? After all, your routine will start now.
Your test of character will be exploited to the fullest when you do the rounds now for bigger, better roles.

You will hear lines like, ''You are good, but we are looking for someone different.'' Or ''We will get back to you when we have a role suited for you.'' Or even, ''Meet me at the office, we will go through the songs and dance routine, you will get the feel of how we work.''

So don't get frustrated. This missive is not to discourage you, but to let you know that you should not be disappointed if no offers come your way after such a dhamakedar performance.

Mercifully, we have the new-age face of Bollywood who believe in creativity, who believe in giving the newcomers a chance, who believe talent is a must if a film has to be a success.

Farhan Akhtar, Vishal Bharadwaj, Anurag Kashyap, Dibakar Bannerjee, to name a few, all belong to this new school of thought who I believe are trying to break that misconception of Bollywood. Who know that the film is of prime importance, not the 'activities' around it. If not, Nikhil Advani would not have cast you!

You will do well, of that there is no doubt. So don't try to fit in, because you stand out. Not only because of your talent: but also because of your looks.

Hopefully you will continue to be a natural (in the looks department as well) or else, a few years down the line, it might be difficult to recognize you from the glossies if you fall prey to 'looking good'.

God Bless You

Martin D'Souza
