Currently shooting in Los Angeles for HAPPY ENDING, Saif Ali Khan was hardly amused when he was informed of some stray reporting around him being tagged 'jinxed' as a co-star. The insinuation came from the case studies of Giselli Monteiro (LOVE AAJ KAL) and Diana Penty (COCKTAIL) who haven't really picked up anything substantial after making their debut with Saif.
"Shouldn't it be the other way round i.e. Saif being lucky for newcomers like Giselli or Diana,' comments a source, "The truth is that both these girls, with due respect to all their talent, have been really unlikely choices as the leading ladies. They are not typical personalities who get a smash beginning in a Bollywood film as a heroine per se. Saif trusted them to deliver goods. Now these girls are on their own and have to find their place under the sun. It would be uncalled for to term Saif as a jinx. After all, he is the one who has ensured a hit start to their career."
When contacted, Saif tried to shrug off the entire conversation. However on being prodded further, he fired away.
He said, "Whether it is Diana or Giselli, we have cast girls with certain personalities in certain roles. Of course their presence helped in our films; this is the reason why they were there in the first place. However, these girls cannot do regular films. They will not be comfortable in mainstream films."
Saif goes on to add, "They need sensitive and caring directors, like we gave them. Imtiaz (Ali) and Homi (Adajania) treated them with such care that perhaps very few will. Now it's up to them on whether they do well or not."
As for him being marked as jinxed for them, he smiled away, "Well, how much should I really care about a thought of someone out there with a pen or a keyboard? The world of movies is transparent to all. Your prerogative could be to term someone as jinxed while someone else may term that as being lucky. Take your pick!"
