How many of us would be aware about the fact that Dharmendra, who is popularly known as Paaji is the star who has completed his 50 years of association with Hindi cinema when Hindi cinema is celebrating its 100th year. For Dharmendra it indeed would be a moment of reckoning as his latest release YAMLA PAGLA DEEWANA 2 is just around the corner and it would be for the third time in his acting career that he would be acting along with his two sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol.
It is his tremendous goodwill that he has generated in the film industry as a result of which he was able to bring on superstars of the ilk - Shahrukh Khan together along with Aamir Khan for the launch of the music of YPD 2.
Dharmendra is one actor who has a genuine sense of comedy and has a deadpan way of delivering the same. His natural flair for comedy manifested itself when he was given an opportunity to experiment in this genre in a big way by Hrishikesh Mukherjee in CHUPKE CHUPKE and from then on perhaps it became the leitmotif of his performance thenceforth and this was the template which was used by him when he decided to act along with his two sons in YAMLA PAGLA DEEWANA, after unsuccessfully dabbling with his two sons in a serious film APNE.
Dharmendra is an institution and a vital link from the glorious history of Indian cinema from the black and white era still donning the grease paint to emote in front of the camera.
The USP of the institution lies in the fact that his popularity has an appeal that transcends generations; he has a fan following among the kids as also those who loved him in the black and white era. No wonder, in the latest advertisement to promote the consumption of eggs, it is Dharmendra who has been chosen as the brand ambassador along with a child to promote consumption of eggs.
His YPD 2 has already created a buzz in the market and it is his goodwill and fan following that would set the cash registers ringing when it is released eventually. The original he-man of India he was the first star who aspired generations to go in for a fit and muscular demeanor before it became fashionable to associate with body building. How many of us would also be aware of the fact that he has been instrumental in providing nourishment to the Punjabi film industry which has become an industry to be reckoned with, in its infancy.
No wonder, he has such a tremendous fan following especially amongst the Diaspora and there is a great sense of anticipation for YPD 2 when it releases. His is the family that never factored in commercial considerations when getting associated with an initiative in the film industry, and as a by-product has tremendous goodwill in the film industry in particular, and for the film crazy public all around the world.
