Post SHOOTOUT AT WADALA, John Abraham is moving ahead to explore a different set of target audience, the one which is much more inclined towards cinema of international class and calibre. The film in question is MADRAS CAFE and the endeavour of all involved with the film is to bring on difference in the industry.
'I think our industry has a very pre-determined mindset,' reflects John, 'Our cliches are predictable and expected. Though I am not apologetic about them, I would like to create a different form of cinema that our young generation could showcase to their counterparts in the West and say that 'Hey, we make films like this too in India'. Oh yes, our songs and dances are what make us special. However if we have to stand up and deliver something that matches up to the genres and storytelling that is otherwise considered to be a product of West, then well, we should have an answer in the form of MADRAS CAFE.'
The film is seeing a true blue 'location-driven' status for itself, what with numerous cities across the globe being explored.
'Yes, we have taken MADRAS CAFE all over, be it Cochin, Kanyakumari, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangkok, Sri Lanka, London and of course Mumbai. This is a magnum opus in its own way. It is important to understand that we are making a massive film which is a political action thriller. We have to be smart about staying authentic and yet bring on a product which not just fetches critical acclaim but also gains commercial success,' John says.
