Gauri Shinde: Never thought in business terms for ENGLISH VINGLISH

ENGLISH VINGLISH continues to make waves. If it was one of the most appreciated Bollywood films last year, the kind of recognition it has been earning internationally is stuff that cult films are made of. The Sridevi starrer, after running for over 100 days in Hong Kong, has now been released in Germany as well. Now Eros International, the film's producers, plan to take it to other countries also by dubbing it in local languages.
"The film seems to have connected with all kinds of audience everywhere," says Gauri Shinde in an elated tone, "I have been to several countries and festivals for the film and the responses everywhere have been overwhelming. In Berlin, there were Germans who came forward and said that they loved the film. I believe it is a good idea to give ENGLISH VINGLISH a mainstream release there. Eros is doing the right thing. I even know of Spanish and Latin people who have loved the film. It has been shocking no less. I hope we reach out to them as well in a much broader way."
With the kind of success that the film has garnered during last few months, one wonders whether Gauri was conscious of the reach that the film promised on paper itself.
"Honestly, I didn't think about markets and all," confesses Gauri, "I am just a creative person. All I know is that I have to tell a story that connects with people. ENGLISH VINGLISH indeed is a universal subject but while conceptualising it, I never thought in business terms."
Those at Eros are definitely thinking business for ENGLISH VINGLISH. Buzz is that there are also plans being formulated to take the film to Japan next.
