The promo of SATYAGRAHA is out and it is apparent that as a conniving politician, Manoj Bajpayee is all set to steal the scene all over again. While his partnership with Prakash Jha has time and again resulted in terrific screen outings, he is seen as an unabashed baddie in this film about politics and system which is led by Amitabh Bachchan and Ajay Devgn with Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal in tow.
No wonder, the man of the moment is elated as well as he truly believes that this is the first time ever that he is playing a true-blue villain in a film which has been directed by one of his favourite directors.
"I am truly an antagonist in SATYAGRAHA. It's a different topic that has been picked up by Jha this time. It is all the more interesting as I am the only one standing against all of these main actors. It is going to be a war to the finish," says Bajpayee who has been seen in two notable performances earlier this year, SPECIAL 26 and SHOOTOUT AT WADALA.
"Both Jha and I truly believe that I was not an antagonist in RAAJNEETI. The film was about two families fighting for what they thought was their own. It was our own interpretation of Mahabharata. Neither me nor Ajay were antagonists there," he reasons, "Same was the case with AARAKSHAN. I represented one side of the system that exists; it is not illegal either. It had some moral values, or the lack of them, attached to it but the character was not a villain there."
While in his last film with Prakash Jha, CHAKRAVYUH, Manoj played a wronged Naxalite, there are no white shades whatsoever that he is carrying in SATYAGRAHA.
Now one waits to see what unfolds on screen when SATYAGRAHA, a film by UTV Motion Pictures and Prakash Jha Productions, releases all over on 23rd August.
