Scott Foundas the chief film critic of a leading American Trade magazine has generally panned the Cannes opener THE GREAT GATSBY but has good words for the performance of Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan. He terms it as the 'belated' Hollywood debut of the Bollywood super-star. Big B plays the role of Meyer Wolfsheim, a flamboyant Jewish gambler and a benefactor of Jay Gatsby, the film's protagonist.
Foundas heaps praises over the work of Elizabeth Debicki, who plays the female golfer Jordan Baker, and Big B in glowing words like '... the liveliest work in the film comes from two actors with only a few minutes of screen time between them.'' He is not so kind to the others and writes '...Gatsby feels like a well-rehearsed classic in which the actors say their lines ably, but with no discernible feeling behind them.''
THE GREAT GATSBY is directed by the well-known Australian director Baz Luhrmann and is based on a 1925 American classic novel by Scott Fitzgerald. The film will open the 66th Cannes Film Festival on 15th May 2013. It stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton, Isla Fisher, Jason Clarke, Elizabeth Debicki, Jack Thompson, and Amitabh Bachchan. The film is releasing in North America on 10thMay 2013, five days ahead of its Cannes screening while Warner Bros will release it in India on 17th May 2013, two days after its Cannes bow.
