She has been there for now almost now six years, since the time Sonam Kapoor made her debut with Ranbir Kapoor in SAAWARIYA, but while Ranbir Kapoor has emerged as one of the most successful film stars in the recent times, the elusive tag of being a successful star continues to elude Sonam Kapoor till now. But things seem to be on an upward curve for her now and may be the year 2013 is going to be the year which she has been waiting for and this could provide her the platform to stamp her style persona on the Hindi cinema in a definitive manner.
The catalyst for the assertion would be coming with two of her most important films that are releasing within a time span of one month; one is RAANJHANAA where she stars opposite Dhanush of Kolaveri Di fame, while in BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG she has been paired opposite Farhan Akhtar. It is altogether a different fact that Sonam Kapoor after making her debut in 2006 has emerged as the style Diva and as the Diva she has made her presence felt in a big way, all over the world, noticeably at the Mecca of film making, Cannes.
Coming back to her quotient of success that she could get in 2013, the conviction to put the maxim emerges from the fact that both these films are situated in small cities and have a strong narrative and Sonam Kapoor has got an interesting role to play in both the films. Besides, as her co-stars (in RAANJHANAA) are not the celebrity film stars, she gets an opportunity to make her presence in a big way. Promos of both the films which are in circulation have indeed provided her the platform to carve a niche for herself.
In terms of the performance as well, that could tilt the balance in Sonam's favor, is the fact that while in RAANJHANAA Sonam Kapoor plays the role of a girl from Varanasi, in BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG she plays the role of a typical rusty Punjabi girl, these are two roles in stark contrast that would provide her ample opportunity to display her array of histrionics and conquer the territory that she has been waiting for, for quite a long time.
