Hrithik Roshan's KRRISH 3 crosses 100 crore without deliberate attempts

100 crore has become the benchmark which all the filmmakers aspire to, the first benchmark to brace through and then aspire to reach touch 200 crore eventually. The benchmark of 100 crore is achieved through the template of having an item number or two, some ingredients of comedy thrown in, in all a package which hurtles from one incident to another to gravitate to the climax. Another trait of 100 crore is that it kindles the urge to come up with sequels to cash in on the brand equity of the name which facilitated business of 100 crore. In Indian film industry this trend became a norm with GOLMAAL series, followed by DHOOM series.
But what has been the underlining feature of this sequel business is that the brand name of the first success is encashed so we have a GOLMAAL, GOLMAAL RETURNS, DHOOM, DHOOM-2, and now DHOOM 3 but the sequels rarely have the continuity of the story from the first film. Each of the subsequent ones has a different story than the original. But Rakesh Roshan is one director in the film industry who indeed could be honoured with the title of being a genuine sequel maker. The template of film making that he initiated with KOI MIL GAYA- having a heady concoction of science fiction interspersed with religious underpinnings continued to be his template right through Hrithik Roshan starrer KRRISH 3 as well.
Rakesh Roshan also needs to be credited about the fact that he did not forwarded the release of KRRISH 3 with a rather longish weekend to encash and maximize his revenue, neither did he resort to any item song as a catalyst to attain success for KRRISH 3. Rather, he released the film on a Friday, continued with the old template of film promotion and still his KRRISH 3 reached the magic figures of 200 crore and continues to go strong.
Short point of the argument is that one should have faith in the template that one has created and continue to further develop it and with each successive sequels continue to expand the fan following, and do not be swayed by the distractions of item numbers to make the film a hit. Success of KRRISH 3 has indeed proved the point that if the content is strong, and the narrative has been put in a nice way the film would succeed come what may. Rakesh Roshan belongs to the old school of film making which does not believe in resorting to vulgarity to bring out guffahs and increase the footfalls. By sticking to conventional film making Rakesh Roshan ensures that the whole family watches the film and enjoys it without sideway glances and KRRISH 3's stupendous success has pointed out to the fact that Rakesh Roshan can take the sequel forward to part-IV as well.
