Now this could well have been 'one of its kinds' clash but has been averted. Audience would have seen two Ramesh Sippy films clash on the same day at the very beginning of 2014, what with his all-time blockbuster SHOLAY 3D clashing with his upcoming production SONALI CABLE.
However, this won't happen, now that SONALI CABLE has been moved to the month of April.
"There have been instances of an actor seeing two releases on the same day. There have also been cases when a director sees two of his films clashing at the box office. However never before has a filmmaker seen a production and a directorial affair arriving on the same day. Ramesh Sippy was caught on a precarious situation and it is good that this won't be the case now," informs a source.
SONALI CABLE, starring Rhea Chakraborty (of MERE DAD KI MARUTI fame) and Ali Fazal, was supposed to release a few months back but then was pushed to 3rd January. The plans were form till very recently but with SHOLAY 3D also announcing its arrival on the same day, the moving ahead of SONALI CABLE appears as a well-timed decision.
"It is a different matter though that Ramesh Sippy has disassociated himself from SHOLAY 3D. Hence, even if he would have retained his SONALI CABLE for the originally locked date, the decision wouldn't have been challenged. However for media and others in the industry, this Sippy v/s Sippy clash would have been fodder for all the gossip. They have been deprived of that now with SONALI CABLE moving ahead," quips a filmmaker.
As for SHOLAY 3D, the film is staying firm around its 3rd January arrival plan and has already put together its promotional and marketing campaign. The only challenge that it is going to get now is from Arshad Warsi and Soha Ali Khan's MR. JOE B. CARVALHO which too has been announced for arrival on the first Friday of the New Year.
