Amitabh Bachchan has tasted the popularity of his voice when once he tried to fiddle with it in Mukul S. Anand's movie AGNEEPATH, and had to face his fan's wrath!
In an attempt to give an innovative style to the often repeated baddie character, Amitabh altered his original enchanting voice into an unconventional robust kind to make his character look more darker but, soon after the first show, film buffs all over the country rejected their favourite superstar's experiment!
The disappointment was so spontaneous and unanimous that Mr. Bachchan had to instantaneously re-dub his dialogues to save the movie from sinking!
Praising Amitabh's voice, actor-cum-filmmaker, late Sunil Dutt once narrated an interesting incident. He said, ''In my movie, RESHMA AUR SHERA, Amitabh played a mute character. I remember, in its premier after the show ended, I introduced Amitabh to the great actress, Meena Kumari, as an upcoming talent. When Amitabh began speaking to Meenaji, she was totally floored hearing Amitabh's magnificent voice. Believe me, for few seconds, without a flicker of her eyes she kept hearing Amitabh, who was singing all her praises.''
Later when Amitabh ended, a wonder-stuck Meena Kumari turned and in bewilderment bombarded at me, ''How could you make an emperor of such a golden voice, a mute, in your film???''
