BESHARAM: Time to wake up and smell the coffee

Ranbir Kapoor was expected to grace a media event post film release, which was cancelled almost at the eleventh hour. The event was supposed to be simultaneously video-cast across major Indian cities. Director Abhinav Kashyap was quoted in the media justifying that Ranbir was ''busy'' with other commitments! The question now is that If he was really so busy, why did they keep the event in the first place?
There have been stories doing the rounds in the media circles that the event was deliberately cancelled to avoid BESHARAM's backlash from the media. Considering the overall negative response that the film received could actually be the reason.
The lesser said about the film, the better. 'Who cares about the script when you have a 'Ranbir Kapoor' on board?' is perhaps what the makers might have thought. The result is for everyone to see (or rather not see). It was appalling to see the entire Kapoor family being wasted and reduced to potty (literally) jokes. Abhinav has definitely missed a golden opportunity and so have the vast population of Ranbir fans.
It's high time the filmmakers realise that the audience who is spending their hard-earned money is running out of patience. They're being offered trash in the name of entertainment. Blaming just the filmmakers would also be incorrect for the audience needs to be more judicious in the kind of films they choose to spend their money on. If bad films make their money... who'd care for the script and hence more such films will be offered in the audiences' palette. It's a vicious circle which needs to be curtailed if we want better films.
Let's hope our filmmakers and our audience wake up and smell the coffee before it's too late.
