Humko Mita Sake Yeh Zamaane Mein Dum Nahin Humse Zamaana Khud Hain ... Zamaane Se Hum Nahin!

True to his splendid dialogue from the movie BULANDI (1981) Raaj Kumar, the versatile actor of Indian cinema and better recognized for his catchphrase 'Jaani', lived a regal life in reality too.

Like the aristocrat he mingled with the select creme de la creme members of the society, smoked pipe, the distinctive style of the nobles and kept himself furtive away from the Paparazzi.

Though Raaj Kumar lived a king size lifestyle, few know that when he quit his job as a police sub-inspector in Mumbai and made entry in Bollywood with RANGEELI in 1952, he had to struggle five years until he won acclaim in Mehboob Khan's MOTHER INDIA (1957). Further with PAIGHAM, opposite Dilip Kumar and UJALA, DIL APNA AUR PREET PARAI, DIL EK MANDIR he made his presence felt as a good actor but still he had to wait to fetch the elusive tag of Star which he ultimately won with B. R. Chopra's WAQT (1965).

Directed by Yash Chopra WAQT was the first film that gave a complete makeover to Raaj Kumar's personality. Raaj Kumar, who till then was stereotyped in simple and sober roles was given a suave look with stylish attire and to add cheery to the cake some peerless dialogues. Remember 'Jinke Ghar Shisheke Hote Hai Woh Duseroke Gharpar Pathar Uthaya Nahi Karte Hai...' and 'Yeh Bachon Ki Khelene Ki Cheez Nahi...Haath Cut Jaaye To Khoon Nikal Aata...'

The film was a huge hit and fetched Raaj Kumar the Best Supporting Actor's Filmfare Award. Thus, opening doors of stardom for Raaj Kumar, who continued to rule Bollywood, till the mid-90s with his traditional aura and charisma!

Glamsham.Com remembers 'Janni' aka Raaj Kumar on his birthday, October 8.
