Besides being a megastar, Amitabh Bachchan, who celebrates his 71st birthday today, is also a good human being per se. Amitabh Bachchan believes in the ideology of not indulging in publicity out of charity and sticks to his principles but the media keeps a hawk eye and has time and again revealed many of his charitable endeavours where he went all out to help the underprivileged section of the society
Another important quality of Amiatbh Bachchan, which sets him apart, is that he never forgets who have helped him in his struggling days. One such person is S. Ramanathan, the film director, who gave Amitabh Bachchan his first super hit film BOMBAY TO GOA, which later helped him acquire the smashing hit ZANJEER.
Amitabh Bachchan later worked with S. Ramanathan in MAHAAN, the movie in which Amitabh Bachchan played a triple role like Dilip Kumar in BAIRAAG. However, despite being a multi-starcast - Zeenat Aman, Praveen Babi, Waheeda Rehman and Amjad Khan the movie was a disaster putting S. Ramanathan into heavy losses.
To recover the losses S. Ramanathan then produced GERAFTAAR starring Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth and requested Amitabh Bachchan to make a special appearance, which Bachchan did willingly and what's more he even declined to charge any amount. The movie was a superhit.
Recently, when S. Ramanathan expired Amitabh Bachchan expressed his grief and posted, 'My director S Ramanathan of several films - Bombay to Goa, Mahaan, Giraftaar, Zamaanat, passes away suddenly ... no words of grief can express enough!''
