It has indeed been one of the most regular features of the films made in Hollywood that they in one form or the other celebrate the ingenuity of the human will and perseverance to dominate over the regime of gizmos, gadgets and equipments to lay hands on a piece of jewellery that is envy of the world or a scientific discovery so that it does not go into the hands of people who may use it for destructive purposes.
DHOOM 3 which is going to hit the screens this December and whose trailer would be releasing today seems to have subtler shades of the same. It could perhaps be for the first time in the history of Hindi cinema where laser protected jewelry would be shown being picked up by the expert thieves. Hollywood has successfully dabbled with this template in two of its most successful films MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 2 (MI-2) and ENTRAPMENT.
In MI-2 Tom Cruise weaves through the laser protected covers to pick up the medicine chimera that end the misery of the world, while in ENTRAPMENT, Sean Connery trains Catherine Zeta Jones rigorously to steal crown jewelry from a laser protected site.
One could say that D-3 may have more the shades of ENTRAPMENT than MI-2 as Katrina Kaif plays the role of an Acrobat Dancer similar to Catherine Zeta Jones, who played an expert gymnast in ENTRAPMENT who is trained by Sean Connery to steal the jewelry and it may be the case that the role of Sean Connery with subtle shades of humour thrown in, could be what Aamir Khan may be executing in D-3.
Be it MI-2 or ENTRAPMENT's idea, one could be sure that as YRF has left no expenses to get the right nuance, it would be indeed be a visual treat for the audience when the film finally releases in December.
