'With great power comes great responsibility' - The adage couldn't have been more true for the Bollywood superstars. Finding themselves in the ring week after week when it comes to creating, breaking and chasing records, it is the season of records that would kick-start this Diwali. With KRRISH 3 arriving tomorrow, Roshans are expected to set some benchmarks, the opening day collections being the starting point.
HRITHIK ROSHAN and RANBIR KAPOOR
'First and foremost, the film has a job in hand to create a new record for best collections ever on a non-holiday,' comments a trade source, 'As of now, it is held by Ranbir Kapoor whose YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI had collected just under 20 crores on its regular Friday release earlier this year. In the process, he had broken the record held by Salman Khan for DABANGG 2 by around 50 lakhs.'
With the kind of hype, pre-release publicity & marketing, sequel factor, huge release, solo arrival, no competition around it and no big grosser since GRAND MASTI (which collected over 100 crores), the stage is set for Hrithik Roshan to make merry and 20 crore is pretty much being looked as a cakewalk.
'He has to,' the source continues, 'Last year he enjoyed the best start ever in his career with AGNEEPATH coming close to the 22 crore mark. Yes, it was a holiday release though since it had arrived on 26th August. Still, he has managed to create that kind of standing for himself after being around for over a decade that a film of his carries tremendous potential for earning some massive moolah.'
Moreover, with KRRISH 3 carrying enough meat for audience ranging from 6 to 60 years of age, expectations are sky high for the film to cross at the least 25 crore mark on its arrival. The only major setback so far has been the music.
'His own AGNEEPATH had 'Chikni Chameli' while YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI as well as DABANGG 2 had an array of songs that had turned chartbuster even before the films hit the screens. On the contrary, KRRISH 3 songs haven't really added any value to the film's reach in theatres,' an observer comments.
However, the industry - which has seen some setbacks in the recent past - is hopeful that overall positives that KRRISH 3 carries would pull it through and ensure a massive start for the film. The first step in that direction would be to create a new record for the best opening day ever on a non-holiday. Anything over and above 20 crore and the game would be on for Roshans.
