Hai Apna Dil To Aawara,
Na Jane Kis Pe Aayega....
This romantic song from the 50s classic hit SOLVA SAAL, staring Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman, precisely describes the flamboyant personality of evergreen Bollywood icon Dev Anand. Blessed with debonair looks and a fashion statement Dev Anand left ladies flabbergasted. Since college days he was a favourite of girls and one particular girl whom Dev Anand himself adored was his classmate Usha Chopra at Government College in Lahore.
Later in Mumbai Dev Anand's romance with actress Suraiya is quite famous but few know how the great actress fell in love with the young man, who was yet to become a star. The duo acted together for the first time in the movie VIDYA (1948). In the movie there was a scene picturized in a boat. Indecently, while shooting the boat lost its balance and both Dev and Suraiya fell into the river. Suraiya, who despite of knowing swimming began to drown and shouted for help, Dev Anand immediately jumped in and saved her life. Soon love blossomed and the two came close. The duo gave a string of hits. They worked together in seven films together-- VIDYA (1948), JEET (1949), SHAIR (1949), AFSAR (1950), NILI (1950), DO SITARE (1951) and SANAM (1951).
The two were so madly in love that they had decided to elope and marry as Suraiya's grandmother did not approve their marriage. In an interview, Dev Anand has confessed that he literally cried in solitude and same was the plight of Suraiya but obliging to the culture and tradition the duo sacrificed their love and parted away.
Though Dev Anand married actress Kalpana Kartik, he continued his 'Romance With Life' (pun intended) with many women most famous being Zeenat Aman, Tina Munim and a Czech interpreter.
Today being his birthday, Glamsham.Com remembers the actor!
