The trio of 'Dirty Boys' - Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi and Aftab Shivdasani - have beaten Vidya Balan in her backyard. GRAND MASTI, which is continuing to find an audience for itself despite the release of PHATA POSTER NIKHLA HERO and THE LUNCHBOX, is now also the highest grossing adult film of all times. It has achieved this feat by surpassing THE DIRTY PICTURE collections of 82 crore and currently stands in excess of 85 crore.
'Before THE DIRTY PICTURE it was Emraan Hashmi starrer RAAZ - THE MYSTERY CONTINUES which was the highest grossing adult film ever. Once Vidya Balan created that record a couple of years back, it was largely felt that it was there to stay. However GRAND MASTI has managed to stun all. Not just has the Indra Kumar directed film comfortably surpassed the Milan Luthria film which was all about 'entertainment, entertainment and entertainment', it has also managed to do that in a mere 11 days,' confirms a source.
For an Indian market where each of those 20 odd 100 crore affairs are 'U' or 'U/A' certified films, the kind of roaring success that GRAND MASTI has turned out to be is a huge surprising no less. More so, especially considering the fact that the film didn't feature any of the male leads from the Top-10 bracket while majority of six heroines were largely unknown faces.
However, one man who is not surprised at all is Indra Kumar himself.
Laughs Milap Zaveri, writer of GRAND MASTI, 'At the writing stage itself Induji was confident that the film would do 100 crore. Then after he saw the First Cut, he started believing that it would do 150 crores. We had to curb his enthusiasm and say that 'Sir, even if we do 65-70 crores, we should all be happy since we would have made huge strides even with that'. Guess he is having the final laugh now.'
While 150 crore is definitely an over enthusiasm coming into play, something that Indra Kumar must have said in jest, the countdown has indeed begun for the 100 crore milestone being achieved. Considering the fact that WARNING - 3D is the only notable released this Friday, Bollywood could soon be bracing for its first ever 100 crore adult comedy super success.
