Releasing along-side half a dozen films, PRAGUE, MAAZII, SUPER MODEL, RAQT as well as Hollywood's ELYSIUM, Anubhav Sinha's Gurmmeet Singh directed WARNING 3D not only embarked on comparatively the best start of the lot but showed a day wise escalation netting around 3.50 crore (to be validated) during the opening weekend. Just as a comparison, the remaining releases (barring Hollywood's ELYSIUM) were all below the 50 lakh mark!
The first production venture of Anubhav Sinha's home banner, Benaras Media Works, clearly battled against all odds to achieve the creditable feat. Not only did it face competition from the above mentioned releases, but additionally had to ward off strong opposition from older films like, PHATA POSTER NIKHLA HERO, THE LUNCH BOX (doing very well at multiplexes) and the still strong GRAND MASTI.
Another factor that cannot be ignored is the fact that a big star cast and hugely anticipated and well hyped film like BESHARAM, starring the current box-office favourite, Ranbir Kapoor, is all set to release just five days later (2nd October), and it's been an old trend in Bollywood that the audience mostly stays back to watch the big release rather than spend its money on other films.
With the film holding reasonably well on Monday, especially at the multiplexes and in particular 3D screens, WARNING is sure to be a profitable venture for Benaras, EROS and Alumbra. And with the Fiji government subsidy still to come, it will surely be party time for the whole team of WARNING 3D.
